Info / Itinerary

This will be a FUN few days of curling! Don’t miss out.

LATEST UPDATES:

SILENT AUCTION: We’ve had a tremendous response by donors, so besides the daily 50/50 draws (winning numbers will be posted), there will be many exciting raffle prizes and silent auction items up for bid (cash or cheques, payable to Vancouver Nisei Curling Club, only). The raffle prizes and silent auction items will be drawn at the Saturday Banquet at 9:30 pm. Don’t forget to claim your winnings that evening! Here are some of the silent auction items up for grabs:
– 4 Tickets to a Canucks’ 2017/2018 home game in the Encore Club, including a meal (retail value $2,000)
– Predator Ridge 2-night stay with 4 rounds of golf (retail value $1,400)
– 2 nights at Penticton Guest House (five bedrooms) (retail value $750)

– Sturgeon fishing for four anglers (retail value $600)

RCC PARKING: We strongly recommend people to car pool. The Richmond Curling Club parking is very limited. (Note: the “Reserved” parking is in force during week day business hours.) If full, the nearby Richmond Olympic Oval has paid parking ($1/hr or $10/day). Visit http://richmondoval.ca/facility/hours-location/ for more info.

REGISTRATION AND TEAM PHOTOS: Teams can pick up their registration package on Wednesday, April 12, at the Richmond Curling Club from 6 pm onward, and on Thursday, April 13, from 7 am onward. Inside, teams will find programs, meal tickets (including extra orders—please make sure you have the correct number ordered right away), gifts and goodies. After picking up your registration package, please make sure to have your team photo taken by our onsite photographer.

SPARES: If you are unable to find your own eligible spare, please contact as soon as possible the Spare Convenor, Ron Shimizu, at 604-317-6048 (cell) or 604-454-9603 (home) and he may be able to find you one. Please note: Spares must be approved, or provided, by the Bonspiel Committee. A team must have at least two original team players in order not to default. Spares must play lead (unless two spares are required, in which case the spares must play lead and second). Refer to the program or the posted notices for the complete rules and regulations.

MEALS: With 64 teams and many spectators, the Richmond Curling Club will be packed. To deal with the crowds and to ensure everyone gets fed on time, please listen carefully to the announcements and allow those teams who must curl after the meals to eat first. There will be a lot of delicious food. No one will go hungry. After eating, please make room for others and move to another part of the facility.

EXTRA MEAL TICKETS: We are completely sold out of all extra meal tickets for all nights, including the Saturday Banquet.

BANQUET PARKING: You are invited to reserve parking for the Saturday Night Banquet in the Minoru Ballroom at the nearby Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel (7551 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC, V6X 1A3; Tel. 604-273-7878).

Parking at the hotel (free with your banquet ticket) will be valid from 04/15/2017 05:00 pm to 04/16/2017 11:00 am. Please note: No pass is required to be displayed.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

LOCATION: Richmond Curling Club, 5540 Hollybridge Way, Richmond, BC

DATE: April 12 – 16, 2017. See Draw Schedule below.

ENTRY DEADLINE: March 1, 2017. There will be a firm cut-off of 64 teams. Registration is guaranteed only with full payment. This will sell out, so register early to avoid disappointment. If you have already registered, please pay your entry fees ASAP to avoid being put on a waiting list.

ENTRY FEE: $95.00 per person / $380.00 per team. The entry fee includes: three dinners, including a hotel banquet; lots of great entertainment, including an opening ceremony, jazz band, and the Saturday night gala with a DJ and dance; a free gift to all entrants; and cash prizes to the winners. Not to mention all the socializing! Extra dinner tickets are available for sale (see Registration Form). Make cheques payable to “Vancouver Nisei Curling Club.” Please indicate on your cheque which team/individuals the payment is for.

REGISTRATION: To register a team or as an individual (we will place those without a team), please submit the Registration Form. If you have questions about registering, please contact registration@bcniseicurling.ca. Mail your payment (and Registration Form if you are not registering online) to: B. Nishi, 6080 – 125th St., Surrey, BC, V3X 2E3.

NOTE: As of December 30, 2016, all new team registrants are being placed on a priority (first come) waiting list pending confirmation of current registrants and available space. All teams will be notified as soon as possible as to their status, and we appreciate your patience during this process. There may be some limited possibility for individuals to register for the bonspiel as part of the Vancouver Nisei Curling Club Pool. (Teams will be formed via a draw pick in February.) To register as part of the Pool, please do not submit the online registration form; rather, print (or download) it, fill it out, then send by email or mail, along with payment to: Ian Cockfield, 655 East 27th Ave., Vancouver, BC, V5V 2K7, or info@bcniseicurling.ca . Individuals will then be put on a priority waiting list for the Pool; entry fees will be refunded should space be unavailable.

ELIGIBILITY AND TEAMS: All curlers must be of hereditary Japanese lineage, or be a spouse, common-law partner or an immediate family member (child or stepchild only) of a person of Japanese origin or descent.

Curlers from outside the Vancouver Nisei Curling Club can form their own teams; however, we do encourage all curlers who want to join the Vancouver Nisei Curling Club pool to do so – it’s a great way to meet new people! If you don’t have a team, we can help find one for you.

Vancouver Nisei Curling Club members and spares will be placed in a pool and teams will be formed by draft pick; however, Vancouver Nisei Club members and spares are permitted to form their own “family team” (consisting of spouses, common-law partners, siblings, children or stepchildren only) if able to do so. If transportation is an issue, spouses may be placed together on the same team.

We remind people that this bonspiel is being organized in the spirit of friendly competition, with an emphasis on fun and camaraderie.

DRAW SCHEDULE: There will be two draws on Wednesday night, April 12. All teams will play their first game by mid day on Thursday, April 13. We will try to accommodate draw requests (there’s a Special Requests section at the bottom of the Registration Form) as best we can. We can also help teams find spares if needed.

Finals will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 16. All award presentations, etc., will be completed by 5:00 pm.

ACCOMMODATION (to be arranged individually):

A limited number of rooms have been reserved for bonspiel participants at our recommended hotel, The Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel, where the Saturday night banquet and gala will be held. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the Richmond Curling Club. Mention “BC NISEI Curling 50th Anniversary” when making your reservation before March 14, 2017, to get the discounted rate. After this date, reservations can be made on an availability basis and at the best available rate. Those who reserve at the Sheraton BEFORE December 31, 2016, will be entered into a draw for one of four upgrades (Thursday to Sunday nights) to Club Kings Room (drawn before the bonspiel) or a $200 cash prize (drawn at the Saturday night banquet)!
