Info / Itinerary

This will be a FUN few days of curling! Don’t miss out.

LATEST UPDATES:

We remind people that this bonspiel is being organized in the spirit of friendly competition, with an emphasis on fun and camaraderie.

If you are interested in making a donation (including our special In Memoriam program), becoming a sponsor, or in advertising in our program and online, please indicate this on the registration form and a Committee member will contact you. All donations are greatly appreciated.

PLEASE READ THE COMPLETE REGISTRATION INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE REGISTERING.

HEALTH MEASURES: There are currently no Covid-19 restrictions from the City of Richmond or BC PHO. Face masks are not required, but people should feel free to wear them based on comfort level. There will be hand sanitizer and face masks at the Richmond Curling Club.

JC WELLNESS GRANT: The Vancouver Nisei Bonspiel Committee has received a JC Wellness Grant, and would like to invite JC curlers born before April 1, 1949, to curl in the bonspiel at no charge*. We are also inviting past JC curlers to the Saturday night banquet at no charge*. Please indicate on the Registration form if you would like to be considered. [*Note: As the funds are limited, please register early to avoid disappointment.]

50/50 DRAWS: There will be daily 50/50 draws (winning numbers will be posted). Don’t forget to claim your winnings!

RCC PARKING: We strongly recommend people to car pool. The Richmond Curling Club parking is very limited. The RCC parking will be free for the duration of the spiel (the lot will not be monitored by the city). If full, the nearby Richmond Olympic Oval has paid parking ($1/hr or $10/day). Visit http://richmondoval.ca/facility/hours-location/ for more info.

REGISTRATION: Teams can pick up their registration package at the Richmond Curling Club (dates and time TBA). Inside, teams will find programs, meal tickets (including extra orders—please make sure you have the correct number ordered right away), gifts and goodies.

DRAWS: Visit the Draw page.

SPARES: If you are unable to find your own eligible spare, please contact as soon as possible the Spare Convenor and he may be able to find you one. Please note: Spares must be approved, or provided, by the Bonspiel Committee. A team must have at least two original team players in order not to default. Spares must play lead (unless two spares are required, in which case the spares must play lead and second). Refer to the program or the posted notices for the complete rules and regulations.

MEALS: To deal with the crowds and to ensure everyone gets fed on time, please listen carefully to the announcements and allow those teams who must curl after the meals to eat first. There will be a lot of delicious food. No one will go hungry. After eating, please make room for others and move to another part of the facility.

EXTRA MEAL TICKETS: A limited number of extra Friday night bento ($16/ea.) and Saturday night banquet ($66/ea.) meal tickets are available for sale. (See the Registration page for details).

ELIGIBILITY AND TEAMS:All curlers must be of hereditary Japanese lineage, or be a spouse, common-law partner or an immediate family member (child or stepchild only) of a person of Japanese origin or descent. Please note that each team must have a minimum of one female curler, playing any position.

Curlers from outside the Vancouver Nisei Curling Club area can form their own teams; however, we do encourage all curlers who want to join the Vancouver Nisei Curling Club pool to do so – it’s a great way to meet new people! If you don’t have a team, we can help find one for you.

Vancouver Nisei Curling Club members and spares will be placed in a pool and teams will be formed by draft pick; however, Vancouver Nisei Club members and spares are permitted to form their own “family team” (consisting of close relatives: spouses, common-law partners, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, stepchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles only) if able to do so. If transportation is an issue, spouses may be placed together on the same team.

DRAW SCHEDULE: TBA. We will try to accommodate draw requests (there’s a Special Requests section at the bottom of the Registration Form) as best we can. We can also help teams find spares if needed.

Finals will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 9. All award presentations, etc., will be completed by 5:00 pm.
